As Artistic Director for the WYWO since 2003, I can tell you what a large impact the WASBE Youth Wind Orchestra has made on countless young musicians, who have made life-long friendships and had often transformational musical experiences as members of this group. The wind orchestra operates on a "scholarship" basis, whereby all those accepted receive free tuition and have all of their local expenses covered. They also are provided with free access to all concerts, workshops and presentations at the Conference. WYWO members are responsible for their personal transportation, and a registration fee of $200.
We are delighted that Maestro Jose Rafael Pascual Vilaplana from Spain will be the conductor for WYWO 2015. He is maintaining the high standard of artistic expectation in his selection of repertoire, which will include a premiere from composer Brett Abigana.
WYWO is an integral part of every WASBE Conference. The ensemble of about 50 members will be comprised of some of the finest young musicians from all around the globe who will come together in San Jose, California to rehearse for the week and close the Conference with a performance at the beautiful California Theatre. WYWO members will arrive in to San Jose on Monday, July 13 to begin rehearsals. The performance of WYWO took place at 2.00pm on Saturday, July 18th 2015, in the California Theatre in downtown San Jose.
WYWO members were housed on campus at San Jose State University during the week, with all meals provided on campus at the Dining Commons from dinner on Monday, July 13th 2015, through to breakfast on Sunday, July 19th 2015.
