DESCRIPTION:Programme\nHenry Dorn I\, too\, am America (UK premiere) *\nElena Adams New work\nEdward Gregson Piano Concerto\nOliver Gaunt New work\nStephen McNeff Monsters \nPerformers\nMark Heron\, Steph Godwin\, Lea Fischer conductors\nFrancesca Chiejina soprano *\nLetizia Palmieri piano\nRNCM Wind Orchestra \nAbout\nPart of Legends and Lore \nFrom ancient myth to lived experience\, this evocative programme explores the power of storytelling through music. \nIn the UK premiere of Henry Dorn’s I\, too\, am America\, soprano Francesca Chiejina gives voice to Langston Hughes’ searing poems from The Weary Blues. These verses reflect on the daily lives of African Americans in the 1920s America. They touch on the struggles of past generations\, the realities of ongoing oppression\, and finding joy and self-awareness within the African American community. \nMonsters by Stephen McNeff offers a musical glimpse into the romance and strangeness of the sculptures of the Garden of Bomarzo\, hewn out of volcanic rock in the 16th century to depict animals from a fantasy world and mythological creatures. \nIn between\, one of our highly commended concerto finalists performs Gregson’s Piano Concerto in his vibrant tribute to 20th century composers alongside two new works by our students.
