The objectives of BASBWE are 'to advance the status of symphonic wind bands and ensembles and the education of the general public'.
BASBWE was founded during the First International Conference of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Since 1981 BASBWE has commissioned over 50 works. The College Commission Consortium has contributed a further 19 works.
BASBWE has a limited amount of funds available each year which can be used in support of events which meet the aims and objectives of the organisation.

The BASBWE Education Trust has organised more than 300 workshops, giving training to at least 14,000 musicians and their bands.
Since it's inception BASBWE has always been involved with the education of young musicians. Many members work in the education sector.
Each year a limited number of bursaries are available to successful applicants to the Sherborne Summer School of Music BASBWE Wind Band Conductors' Course.

Band
For bands, chamber groups or jazz ensembles of any description. Entitles each band member to a discounted subscription to Winds.

Band Concession
For bands, chamber groups or jazz ensembles under the aegis of a Music Service BASBWE member. Entitles each band member to a discounted subscription to Winds.
Musical Services
Includes 2 subscriptions to Winds, and allows bands under the education authority to join at the band concession rate.
Commercial
For reduced advertising rates in Winds and qualification to exhibit at the International Wind Festival amongst other advantages.
